This year’s traditional will run from Saturday, to Tuesday, on the Old Town Square

Market is dominated by a Christmas tree adorned with hundreds of lights and is lit every evening at dusk. This year’s Christmas tree is an 80-years old pine which is 22-meters tall and was brought to Prague from the East-Bohemian Krkonose Mountains. Christmas markets will also have a different colour scheme than a year ago, when the decorations and tree were set in blue and silver. This year’s dominant colour scheme will consist of red, gold and silver.

The Christmas tree on the Old Town Square

Strolling around 80 stands with the traditional Czech handicraft products as Christmas ornaments, wooden toys, glass jewelry, ceramic beer mugs or scarves as well as food and drink stands with mpancakes pastries and other local Christmas favourites, visitors can enjoy Christmas concerts, choirs and various theatre or folclore shows on the main stage situated just besides the Christmas tree.

Mr. Libor Votruba, director of the company that organizes Prague Christmas Markets 2007“The Christmas market will be almost the same as last year. We just added some new food stands with traditional Czech food since in previous years, visitors to the market recommended that we bring more Czech specialities like ’staroceske trdlo’ and ‘babiccina placka’, and so on. So we brought more food of this kind. We also re-organized some of the stalls so that is more spacious for people to move around and feel more comfortable.”

Mattoni Night Grand Prix 2007

Posted by admin on September 4, 2007 under Prague's Travel and Accommodation News | Be the First to Comment

Mattoni Night Grand Prix 2007 will be held just in the Prague’s historical city centre on Saturday, 8th September, 2007. This year’s Grand Prix of Prague International Marathon Running Circuit will be, for the first time in history, Night Grand Prix and will feature the 5 km Adidas Women’s Race and the 10 km Metro Men’s Race starting on the Old Town Square, at 8 PM (Women’s Race & Women’s Team Race) and 9 PM (Men’s Race & Men’s Team Race).

Teams of the Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Embassies will compete in the 2nd edition of Embassy Race, the team race within the Adidas Women’s Race or Metro Men’s Race. Who will beat the last year’s winner - the strongest team of the US Marines..?

Mattoni Night Grand Prix 2007 will definitely be a wonderful experience of running on the illuminated course through the streets of the magical city of Prague!

Traditionally, teams of bartenders from different Prague’s bars will compete in non-traditional ‘athletic disciplines’ of the 5th edition of Hilton Barmen Race.

And, last but not least, within the frame of the Mattoni Night Grand Prix 2007, the traditional Marathon Music Festival will be hopping, as usual, getting the crowds and race participants moving and grooving, completing the ‘Saturday Night Fever’ on the Old Town Square in Prague!

Some things are just more fun in the dark!
